Remember back in the day when your neighbour had those rad backyard bbq's every summer with lots of cool peeps, music you can really jam to, the best soul food and not to mention some good ol' lemonade! And what better way to make lemonade then spiking that heavenly tartness with some sweet 44 North! MMMMMMMMMMMMM! So this Anniversircus was just that. Who would have thought it possible in the middle of NYC: None other that Sam Kim of course! The girl brought it with an event that had the whos who of the urban fashion, music, photography world and their supporters under one roof. Like one big bloc party! Their were chicks with ropes double dutching, some rice and peas stewing in the back, tight sets by the Djs and some eye-candy with a reverse fashion show the had yours truly and two other pretty ladies work the catwalk in our skivvies showcasing the stylings of Raquel Griffin and the fashion of up and coming designers&and yes Robot Arms was there too!

Leave it up to Natalie Blacker for Swindle Magazine and her army of cool ass peeps to put together an event so colorful for the launch of Fafi for Le SportSac collection over at The Xchange on 28th Street.
With DJ's Melody Nelson and Ghislain Poirier on the ones and twos, I skipped merrily through the crowds of artists, designers, musicians, suits and such sippin on my Zygo cocktail cleverly named Fafitini, sweetened with a garnish of red licorice. Stopping occasionally for pictures my time was spent enjoying the wicked view of the Hudson River, some dudes far out apartment, hugging my boyfriend and chatting with other event goers who definitely left pretensions at the door and approached the party with the openness and child like fervor that is so abundant in the cartoonesque work that has made Fafi famous. Everyone was at ease and totally enjoyed the drinks, the music, and each other while anticipating the appearance of Fafi's capricious character Fafinette unto the spot lit canvas that sat in the center of the space. Out Fafi came dressed as colorful as her paint palette with bangs and high cheekbones and I couldn't help but see the influence of her characters. She is them brought to life!
Satisfied with the thought that the party was a super delight I made a mental note to hit a LeSportsac store ASAP to get me one of those "Overnighters". I grabbed a gift bag and headed home with my boy toy holding my hand and images of a magical tree that blooms luscious bags and accessories.

So I headed over to Don Hill's for my girl Gwen's last show at the venue. She is one of six in a sexy, steamy and hilarious burlesque troupe called the Peach Tarts. For over an hour these girls shimmied and shook everything. And I mean E-VRY-THANG! And as a little extra tease, tantalized the crowd with a competition to win a bottle of ZYGO!! Contestants got their hands tied behind their backs, and where asked to strut the catwalk in their best burlesque. My sort of competition! I even got a chance to work it out! (I was later disqualified considering my obvious attachment to Zygo'ss yumminess. The winner: a cute boy that got much lovn' by his girl after the prize was awarded! Mmmmmm...peachy!

If you are a frequent visitor to this page, you have noted the time gap between blog entries. This is due to the high travel demands of spreading the Zygo empire across the globe. Besides extensive travel in the USA, the quest for gold has taken us to France (twice), Canada, Dubai and Ecuador. This little corner blog of our domain needs a regular contributor or editor. Ron, Harold and I seek a suitable scribe to document our efforts. The pay is nonexistent but the right person would have a great Zygo t-shirt collection.

Starting Zygo was a lot harder than Ron and I thought it would be. It was not easy to decide what to put into our mix. Taurine was a given because of its popularity due to Red Bull and a few other energy drinks. There were some other possibilities but a chance meeting with Jeff Steep of Steep Tea was a stroke of luck. This dude is a righteous brotha and a true herbalist. His contribution to the Zygo mix was Yerba Mate. We had never even heard of the stuff until Jeff hipped us to this Andean staple. He never got a dime for his help but we did promise him a case of Zygo. It took Jeff a few years to visit Manhattan and call Ron but last week the Zygo transfer was to take place. Ron cleared his calendar and charged the cell phone in anticipation. Then nothing.......
Jeff blew off Ron but sent a message a few days later which read:
"i mean rz, i'm a lover not a drinker. (kinda was busy all weekend.) i did catch something tho offa houston st. look at this what people are doing to parking meters these days!! i will be back down. everything went excellent. interview, new girl. missed seeing you, tho.
xoxo
steep"
xoxo? Jeff blew off Ron and Zygo for a new lady and a fun time. We forgive him and he can make good on his free case anytime. Meanwhile, he sent this picture of a NYC parking meter hit with a Zygo sticker by the local insurgents.

People often remember our first website that we rocked back in 2002 when we launched Zygo: www.energyvodka.com
This URL was emblazoned on all of our t-shirts, posters, and stickers (see above). People still go there and are perturbed about what they see.
The current www.energyvodka.com page says "closed by request of U.S. Government." People then write and wonder if we got kicked out of the business. Well, if you made it to this site, you know that we are still around.
You can find us today at www.fuelchange.com or here at www.70proofregime.com to read our blog. Anyway, all the liquor sold in the USA is approved by the TTB or Tax and Trade Bureau. It is part of the Treasury Department and they make sure we pay our booze excise taxes on time. They approve every formula, label and advertisement for liquor, beer and wine. They are kinda like the FDA for the pharmaceutical biz.
A year ago, a nice guy from the TTB called us and mentioned that the www.energyvodka.com URL and its presence on t-shirts and stuff was making a health claim. Because Zygo is alcoholic 70 proof nectar, we cannot compare it to energy drinks like Red Bull or ROCKSTAR. Usually, I tend to fight the power but this guy was cool and much more understanding than the meter maids that I meet. We decided against paying legal fees to fight City Hall and we worked out a solution with him.
Zygo still has the Taurine, d-ribose, Guarana and Yerba Mate that you know and love. We just had to change our message a bit to keep the roof over our heads. Guerrilla marketer say: best not to anger giant and live to fight another day.
Viva la revolution!! OK, there you have it.
